Submarine hurler Shunsuke Watanabe pitched a five-hitter over the distance for his eighth win as the Lotte Marines downed the Daiei Hawks 5-1 at Chiba Marine Stadium on Wednesday.

Watanabe (8-3) struck out six en route to winning his fifth straight decision.

The Marines scored three runs in the second with a two-run homer by Saburo Omura and a Masato Watanabe sacrifice fly.

Jose Fernandez added two runs in the eighth with a single.

Daiei hurler Junji Hoshino (0-1) gave up 10 hits and walked none over the distance in his first start of the season.

Tadahito Iguchi returned to Fukuoka to undergo medical tests on his right ankle twisted a day earlier. Pedro Valdes, who complained of pain in his right elbow, and Julio Zuleta, who was diagnosed with a broken left pinky, also did not play.

Lions 6, BlueWave 1

Mitsutaka Goto (10-7) fanned eight over eight innings en route to posting his career first double digit wins as the Lions beat Orix at Yahoo BB Stadium.

Kazuhiro Wada went 3-for-3 while Kazuo Matsui also had three hits -- including his 32nd homer of the year.

Hiroki Kuroda (12-8) matched a career high with his 12th win as Hiroshima edged Chunichi at Hiroshima Stadium.

Lefty Masahiro Yamamoto (9-6) was tagged for five runs on 11 hits over 5 1/3 innings.

Up 2-1 in the sixth with the bases loaded, the Carp widened the lead with Kazuyoshi Kimura's bases-clearing triple.

Alex Ochoa, Kazuyoshi Tasunami and Motonobu Tanishige homered for the Dragons.
