UTRECHT, Netherlands – Former Jubilo Iwata midfielder Toshiya Fujita on Tuesday formally signed a contract running through June next year with Utrecht of the Dutch first division, soccer officials said.
“It took time, but I’m glad it’s finally settled,” said the 31-year-old.
He will be joining compatriot and 2002 Asian Player of the Year Shinji Ono of Feyenoord, who went to the same high school in Shizuoka Prefecture as Fujita, in the Dutch league when FC Utrecht kicks off its season Sunday.
