Seibu slugger Alex Cabrera belted his 30th homer of the year for the go-ahead run in the sixth inning as the Lions edged the Orix BlueWave 2-1 at Seibu Dome on Monday.

With the game tied at 1-1, Cabrera smashed a solo homer off Orix lefty Masahiko Kaneda into the center-field bleachers to lead off the sixth. He is tied with Kintetsu’s Tuffy Rhodes for the PL home run lead.

Kaneda (4-5) held the Lions to two runs on six hits over 5 1/3 innings in a losing effort.

Seibu starter Mitsutaka Goto (5-6) combined with two relievers on a four-hitter for the win. He gave up a solo homer to Roosevelt Brown in the sixth, and four hits all together, while striking out four.

Kiyoshi Toyoda worked the ninth for his PL-leading 24th save.

No farm for Gaillard

NAGOYA (Kyodo) Chunichi Dragons right-hander Eddie Gaillard, who has been removed from the active roster due to injuries to his right hand, may leave the Central League team after refusing to play on the club’s minor league squad, team officials said Monday.

Gaillard, 32, apparently made a request to Chunichi team manager Hisashi Yamada and general manger Kazumasa Ito at Nagoya Dome on Monday that he be moved back to the top team.

His request was not immediately accepted and Gaillard has stated that he will not play on the Dragons’ farm team.
