MIHO, Ibaraki Pref. – Toru Suzuki fired an adventurous 5-under-par 67 on Thursday to take a one-shot lead after the first round of the JPGA Championship.
Suzuki carded two eagles, seven birdies, three bogeys and a double bogey in a helter-skelter round at a rain swept Miho Golf Club to reach the clubhouse one shot ahead of a trio of golfers including American Todd Hamilton.
Hiroyuki Fujita heads another trio a further shot off the pace on 69 while last season’s money rankings leader Toru Taniguchi and Masashi “Jumbo” Ozaki feature in a quintet of players that went round in 70.
