The victory lifted Takeshi Okada's side above Vegalta Sendai into top spot on goal difference while Kashiwa Reysol moved up to eighth in the table after holding on to beat Cerezo Osaka 3-2 in the day's other match in Chiba Prefecture.

At a rain-soaked International Stadium Yokohama, the home side finally got the break through on 67 minutes when Nakazawa rose to head Yukihiko Sato's pinpoint free-kick just inside Hayato Okanaka's right-hand post.

In Sunday's other match, two goals just before the interval from Kisho Yano and Tomonori Hirayama put Kashiwa Reysol on the road to its second win of the season.

Striker Keiji Tamada headed home a third seven minutes from time but Cerezo grabbed two late goals through substitute Albin Pelak and Brazilian striker Baron.
