South Korean veteran Ku Ok Hee set a Japanese tour record with a sizzling 10-under 62 to take the lead at the midway point of the season-opening Daikin Orchid Ladies on Saturday.

Gunning for her 22nd career victory on the Japanese LPGA circuit, Ku tore up the Ryukyu Golf Club with 11 birdies, also a record, against a lone bogey for a total of 7-under 137 to lead Taiwan's Wei Yun-jye by one stroke.

"You don't get a score like that unless the long putts go down and fortunately they did for me today," said Ku, who earned a 300,000 yen bonus for setting the new marks.

The previous record score on a par-72 course was 63 while the highest number of birdies was nine.
