Pacific League board members agreed Tuesday to reintroduce the playoff system next year in an attempt to boost the league's popularity.

The decision was made at a meeting of the PL board of directors held at a hotel on Miyakojima Island in Okinawa Prefecture.

Further details of the format will be discussed in the future, but the most likely case is the one in which the top three teams of the league will advance to the playoffs to decide the regular season winner.

According to this plan, teams that finish second and third in the regular season will face off in a best-of-three series with the winner meeting the league's top finisher in a best-of-five contest.
