The March 26 story "Man freed after half of life wrongly behind bars" reports that a man was in prison for two decades after being falsely accused of murdering a single mother, but was recently freed after the persecution witness admitted that he was not sure he had identified the right man. Willie Earl Green stayed optimistic throughout his time behind bars, even though the justice system did not carefully examine the case against him.

Green's trial should have been more carefully conducted. A man should not have to spend the rest of his life in prison because he was falsely accused. Judicial systems need to develop better ways to prevent such outcomes. Polygraphs should be used to test witnesses' statements in order to minimize lies and lower the chances of innocent people being punished. People need to be able to completely rely on their judicial systems.
