Nuclear-armed North Korea fired two apparent cruise missiles into the sea off its eastern coast Tuesday, the South's military said, in the isolated country’s fifth show of force this year.

The South Korean military said it was continuing to analyze the launches, which came after a flurry of ballistic missile tests earlier this month.

Later Tuesday, the Japanese government's top spokesman, Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno, told a news conference that no missiles had been confirmed to have landed in the country's territorial waters or its exclusive economic zone, which extends 200 nautical miles (370 km) from its coast.
