Sony Corp. unveiled Thursday a 40th anniversary Walkman featuring a case and a screensaver that give it the appearance of the original cassette tape music player.

The screensaver, which features a cassette tape image, is displayed while music is being played so that the anniversary model resembles the original when the case is closed.

Despite its nostalgic appearance, the model is compatible with various music streaming services.

The anniversary Walkman will be on display at the IFA consumer electronics show that opens in Berlin on Friday.

The original Walkman was launched in 1979. Sony’s innovative idea to make music portable by downsizing a cassette tape player made the device a huge hit.

The anniversary model will go on sale in Europe in November for €440. Whether it will be sold in Japan has yet to be undecided.
