Terumo to buy catheter-related business of two U.S. firms

JIJI

Terumo Corp. has agreed to buy part of the catheter-related operations of two U.S. medical equipment companies for $1.12 billion.

The acquisition will be completed after a merger of the two U.S. companies, Abbott Laboratories and St. Jude Medical Inc., Terumo said Wednesday.

After the acquisition, Terumo, a Japanese medical device supplier, will hold top share in the global market for hemostatic devices for femoral arteries.

The acquisition will give Terumo a broad lineup of vascular access devices, the company said.
