Kansai International Airport, the main international gateway to the Kansai region, will start accepting China's Alipay payment service at almost all of its shops in late October, operator Kansai Airports said Friday.

The widely accepted smartphone payment platform in China was made available at eight outlets in the airport's departure area on Friday, with the service expected to cover around 150 shops throughout the airport, including the passenger terminal.

The airport will be the first in Japan to adopt the Alibaba e-commerce group's Alipay on a full scale, though some shops are already doing so.
