A 33-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of killing a male acquaintance whose dismembered body was found in July around Lake Hamanako in Shizuoka Prefecture, police said.

Tatsuya Kawasaki, unemployed, was also served a separate arrest warrant Thursday for allegedly abandoning the body of Yuto Demachi, 32, from Bibai, Hokkaido.

The police suspect Kawasaki may know about the death of Atsushi Sudo, 63, whose bones were found on the shore of the lake in late August, as he has already been charged with making an illegal money transfer using Sudo's cash card.

The police think Kawasaki stabbed Demachi in the stomach with a knife at an apartment in Iwata around July 5 and abandoned his dismembered body around the same lake around July 8.

Demachi's body, which was cut into four parts, was found on July 8 in a cove in the northern part of the lake. The parts were confirmed to be Demachi's through DNA and teeth analyses.
