A 3-year-boy died after falling from the ninth floor of a Yokohama apartment building Monday while his mother was out picking up another child.
Police found Ryosuke Kato lying on his back in the building's garden after they received an emergency call that a child had fallen from the ninth floor.
Kato was taken to a hospital and later confirmed dead.
According to the police, another child saw a boy who appeared to be Kato leaning from the veranda of his family's ninth-floor apartment.
Kato's mother was reportedly not at home at the time because she was picking up another child. When she returned home, she found the window open. The police suspect the boy climbed over a 1.3-meter-high railing on the veranda and fell.
