Two teenagers — a German and a Ukrainian — have been arrested on trespassing charges after climbing to the top of a 120-meter-high pillar of the Rainbow Bridge in Minato Ward, Tokyo, on April 14, police said Friday.

A 19-year-old German and an 18-year-old Ukrainian told police they climbed the pillar "to take landscape photos."

The area is off limits to the public, with signs in both Japanese and English saying entry is forbidden.

The two used the scaffolding for bridge maintenance workers to reach a cable, from where they climbed to the top of the pillar.

They took pictures of the scenery as well as selfies.

The two were arrested after a passer-by noticed them atop the bridge at around 5:30 p.m. and called police.

The German was visiting Japan for sightseeing. The Ukrainian lives in Japan and has already been released, police said.
