Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel on Tuesday agreed to set up bilateral dialogue to counter terrorism later this year.

Abe told his Belgian counterpart that counterterrorism will be high on the agenda at the Group of Seven summit Japan will host in late May. Belgium was hit by terror attacks in March that killed more than 30 people.

Abe said at a joint news conference following the summit meeting that through the bilateral talks on fighting terrorism, Tokyo aims to enhance cooperation with Belgium and ensure safety for Japanese nationals and companies in the European country.
