Prime Minister Shinzo Abe told India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday that he hopes to visit India next month, as he pushes for stronger security ties with the South Asian country amid China's muscle-flexing at sea.

"If various circumstances permit, I would like to visit India next month," Abe was quoted by Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary Hiroshige Seko as saying after the leaders met for a working luncheon.

Diplomatic sources have said Abe is planning a visit to the South Asian country in mid-December.
