A youth was arrested Sunday after allegedly teasing police with YouTube videos showing him shoplifting at convenience stores and piercing snacks on supermarket shelves with toothpicks, police said.

The 19-year-old resident of Mitaka in west Tokyo was being held on suspicion of sneaking into a convenience store in the adjacent city of Musashino at around 7 p.m. on Jan. 5 with illegal intent.

According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the youth admitted to the charge.

The youth, who was put on a police wanted list after posting scenes apparently showing himself on the run, was detained aboard a train when it stopped at JR Maibara Station in Shiga Prefecture early Sunday morning.

He was apprehended after police received a tip that a person resembling the suspect was aboard a train that was heading toward Kyoto.

Upon his return to Tokyo, he was transported to the Musashino Police Station in the afternoon.

In a series of recently uploaded YouTube images, a youth who resembles the person detained by police is seen shoplifting at convenience stores and piercing packets of snacks with toothpicks at supermarkets in Tokyo.
