The wife of a former chairman of the Fukui Prefectural Public Safety Commission was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of killing her bedridden husband at their home, Fukui police said.

Yoneko Matsuura, 73, is suspected of strangling her 77-year-old husband, Masanori, at their home in the city of Fukui on Tuesday. Police have not disclosed whether the suspect has confessed to the charges.

Masanori Matsuura, chairman of the machinery manufacturing company Matsuura Kikai Seisakusho, and the suspect lived there alone. He had recently been bedridden and cared for by his wife, according to officers at the Fukui police station.

The couple's oldest son, 48, saw his father lying in his bedroom when he visited their home on Tuesday morning and called police.
