SoftBank Corp. is considering investing in an offshore wind power plant project, further expanding its renewable energy business, sources said Wednesday.

A SoftBank subsidiary, SB Energy Corp., is in talks to acquire a minority share of Wind Power Energy, the developer of a 90-megawatt wind power plant off the city of Kamisu in Ibaraki Prefecture, the sources said. Construction is expected to begin by March 2015 and power generation at the offshore plant will possibly start in fiscal 2017.

SB Energy is currently developing a 48-megawatt onshore wind plant in Shimane Prefecture, along with a series of massive solar power plants throughout the country.
