Japan’s ambassador to the U.N., Motohide Yoshikawa, has presented to the global body a ratification document on the U.N. Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, formally completing steps for Japan joining the treaty.

It will take effect in Japan on Feb. 19.
