The federation of labor unions for Toyota Motor Corp. group firms decided Saturday to make a unified demand for a pay-scale hike at upcoming spring wage talks for the first time since 2009.

The Federation of All Toyota Workers' Unions at its central committee meeting approved a plan to aim for annual bonuses equal to more than five months' salary.

The federation will not specify the amount of the pay-scale hike and will leave the decision to each union, officials said.

The federation has judged it is now reasonable to demand a pay-scale hike as earnings at Toyota group companies have improved considerably due to the weakening yen and cost-cutting efforts during the fiscal 2013 year.
