The Japan Tourism Agency and the Cultural Affairs Agency agreed Wednesday to increase coordination abroad in promoting traditional Japanese culture and food in the run-up to the 2020 Olympic Games.

Speaking at a signing ceremony in Tokyo, Cultural Affairs Commissioner Masanori Aoyagi expressed his determination to "run tourism and cultural administration so as to make the 2020 Games an Olympics of culture."

The two agencies may hold exhibitions abroad to introduce traditional handicrafts and cuisine, as well as showcasing noh and kabuki performances at major airports in Japan.
