Panasonic Corp. and Lawson Inc. will open a "next-generation" convenience store in Moriguchi, Osaka Prefecture, early next year that will be equipped with the electronic maker's equipment.

The outlet will be at Panasonic's headquarters. Digital signs will introduce recommended products while LED lighting will be used to display fresh meat and vegetables, sources from the two firms said Tuesday.

If the store is a success, the equipment will be extended to ordinary Lawson outlets, the sources said.

The special store is part of Panasonic's efforts to get Lawson and other companies to buy more of its equipment, including refrigerator and freezer showcases.
