Panasonic Corp. will produce smartphones for corporate users that feature enhanced information security, long battery life and are sturdier than those for consumer use, sources said Tuesday.

Panasonic will utilize know-how gained through its sturdy Toughbook notebook personal computers for the corporate-use smartphones, which may go into production by the end of this business year ending next March. The firm aims to produce tens of thousands of the smartphones in the first year at its Kobe plant.
