Aeon Co. said it will create a framework to supply safe food products to Southeast Asian nations in cooperation with the U.N. Industrial Development Organization.

The supermarket operator said Monday it plans to start in Malaysia, where its local affiliate will instruct producers and small and midsize firms on quality control, while UNIDO will dispatch experts to support Aeon's efforts.

"We would like to help raise the level of food safety in all of Asia," Aeon President Motoya Okada said at a signing ceremony with UNIDO.
