Marubeni Corp. said Thursday it has landed an order from the Bangladesh Power Development Board to build a 400-megawatt gas-based combined-cycle power plant in Bibiyana in conjunction with South Korea's Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co.

The contract was signed Wednesday in the Bangladeshi capital, Dhaka, the Japanese trading house said.

The full turnkey contract covers the engineering, construction, delivery and installation of the plant, including turbines and generators to be procured from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd., Fuji Electric Co. and Mitsubishi Electric Corp.

With the deal and other power plant development projects, Marubeni hopes to help facilitate Bangladesh's plan to eliminate chronic power shortages, build up infrastructure and thus make its economy grow, it said.
