Business leaders welcomed Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda's decision to dissolve the Lower House for a general election, voicing hope that politicians will overcome the impasse that has prevented key policy issues from being addressed.

The prime minister "did not prolong political confusion," Keidanren Chairman Hiromasa Yonekura said Wednesday.

Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry Chairman Tadashi Okamura also welcomed Noda's decision, saying, "I would like to commend him for his courage."
