Fast Retailing Co. aims to open 10 Uniqlo stores on the U.S. West Coast at an early date, according to President Tadashi Yanai.

Speaking to the press ahead of Friday's opening of a Uniqlo outlet in San Francisco, the casual clothing chain's first on the West Coast, Yanai said, "We would like to soon open 10 stores around here."

Yanai, who also serves as Fast Retailing's chairman and chief operating officer, further outlined a plan to start online sales of Uniqlo products in the United States this business year. But he said the company is not planning any promotional campaigns, indicating that merchandize sold at Uniqlo outlets will remain its primary source of revenue.

The San Francisco store occupies three stories of a commercial building with 2,700 sq. meters of floor space, Fast Retailing said.
