New budget carrier Jetstar Japan Co. plans to use Kansai International Airport in Osaka as its second base following Narita airport near Tokyo from October, its President Miyuki Suzuki said Thursday.
After launching Narita-based services in July, the carrier, affiliated with Japan Airlines Co. and Australia's Qantas group, has already been recruiting pilots, cabin attendants and aircraft maintenance engineers for its Kansai-based operations, she said.
Jetstar Japan will commence flights between Kansai and Naha, Okinawa, on Oct. 28 and increase the daily number of Kansai-based roundtrip flights to 10 on four routes by Dec. 6, she said.
New Kansai International Airport Co. will complete a terminal in October for rival Japanese low-cost carrier Peach Aviation Ltd.
Suzuki asked the airport company's president, Keiichi Ando, also present at the briefing, to continue expanding facilities for low-cost carriers.
