Toyota Motor Corp.'s Prius hybrid in July topped the list of domestic car sales for the 14th consecutive month with 33,398 units sold, up 37.9 percent from a year earlier, industry bodies said Monday.

Another Toyota hybrid, the Aqua, ranked second with sales of 26,274 units, followed by Honda Motor Co.'s Fit at 24,153, apparently as buyers of eco-friendly cars tried to benefit from the soon-to-end government subsidy program.

Honda's N Box minicar placed fourth with sales of 21,837 units as the fifth-best seller, Daihatsu Motor Co.'s Mira minicar, logged sales of 20,472 units.

Minicars with engines no larger than 660cc remained popular and filled the fourth through eighth slots of the top 10 list.

Sales of Toyota's Corolla, ranking ninth, more than doubled to 13,404 as its Axio and Fielder models built by Toyota Motors East Japan Inc., based in Miyagi Prefecture, sold well.
