Two boys, aged 3 and 4, died after falling into an irrigation canal swollen by recent rain in Okayama Prefecture, police said early Monday.
Yuhi Takeuchi and Naoki Toda, who were neighborhood friends, are believed to have fallen by accident through a gap about 40 cm wide between protective fences running along the canal and a building on its bank, they said.
