The Okinawa Prefectural Assembly unanimously adopted a petition Monday calling on the central government not to present an environmental assessment report integral to the relocation of the Futenma U.S. military base within the prefecture.

Following the planned presentation of the report by the end of this year, the central government intends to ask Okinawa for permission to reclaim the waterfront area of Nago's Henoko district so that new U.S. military facilities can be built to accommodate the flight operations to be moved from the Futenma air station in a populated area in the city of Ginowan.
