Chiba Mayor Toshihito Kumagai is calling on the central government to quickly alleviate noise pollution caused by the increase in flights at Tokyo’s Haneda airport following the expansion of international slots last year.

The number of complaints about aircraft noise lodged by residents of the city of Chiba has surged since October 2010, when the number of international flights increased with the opening of a fourth runway. Two of the new flight paths pass over the city.
