Yomiuri Shimbun owner dies


Toru Shoriki, owner of the Yomiuri Shimbun group, died of blood poisoning early Monday at a hospital in Tokyo, according to Japan’s largest daily. He was 92.

Shoriki, who was also honorary owner of the Yomiuri Giants professional baseball club, became a board member of the newspaper group company in 1960 and also served as president of The Hochi Shimbun, a daily sports newspaper in the Yomiuri group.

A native of Tokyo, he was also an honorary adviser to Nippon Television Network Corp.
