TV personality Miyu Uehara, who was known as a “poverty idol,” was found dead early Thursday in Tokyo in an apparent suicide, police said.
Uehara, whose real name was Mutsumi Fujisaki, 24, apparently hanged herself with a belt and scarf at her apartment in Meguro Ward. She was rushed to a hospital and later pronounced dead.
Uehara was the 10th and youngest child to a family on Tanegashima Island in Kagoshima Prefecture. She became popular on TV shows talking about her experiences with her “big, poor” family, calling herself a “poverty idol.”
