HIROSHIMA (Kyodo) Police handed prosecutors their case Sunday on the university student who allegedly caused a highway express bus to crash during transit in Higashihiroshima, Hiroshima Prefecture, late Friday.

Yuki Kajita, a 22-year-old junior at Kagoshima University, has told investigators he wanted to die. He could face charges of attempted murder because there were 11 other people on the bus at the time, the police said.

Kajita allegedly grabbed the wheel of the bus while it was on the Sanyo Expressway going from Osaka to Kagoshima, and steered it to the left, causing the bus to hit a barrier on the other side of the emergency lane and overturn.

The crash injured 10 on board, including Kajita, the driver and the substitute driver, according to the police.
