Kawasaki plans to collect garbage disposal fees from barbecuers along the Tama River that serves as the border between Tokyo and Kanagawa Prefecture, where people crowd the banks on weekends.
Under the system, which will be tested in September, people would be charged ¥500 a day. The city will create a four-hectare BBQ zone on the Kawasaki side of the Futago Bridge.
