South Korean budget airline Jeju Air aims to inaugurate a chartered flight service between Seoul's Gimpo International Airport and Central Japan International Airport near Nagoya in March, sources said Tuesday.

This will be the first time an Asian low-cost carrier has started flights to Centrair, possibly intensifying competition among airlines flying between the airport and South Korea, which has become a favorite destination of Japanese tourists because of the depreciation of the local currency.

Centrair now hosts operations by All Nippon Airways and South Korean carriers Asiana Airlines and Korean Air.

Jeju Air is waiting for approval from the Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Ministry for its plan to fly one chartered plane every day beginning March 28.
