Police have arrested a group of Japanese and Chinese who allegedly forged credit cards and used them at shops to obtain goods worth at least ¥58 million, it was learned Monday.

The police have seized about 3,000 plastic cards that would have been forged into fake credit cards with magnetic data added.

The cards were shown to reporters at the Osaka Prefectural Police headquarters.

Those arrested, who have already been charged, include Takuya Wakabayashi, 27, of Takatsuki, Osaka Prefecture, and Wang Jun, 28, of Osaka.

"I went to China at the instruction of a Chinese guy I became acquainted with at a public bath and mastered the technology to forge cards there around last summer," Wakabayashi was quoted as saying by police sources.

He used a computer to input credit card data into the plastic cards on around June 20, the police alleged.

Wang allegedly used one of the forged cards June 20 to buy about ¥240,000 worth of goods at a store in Takatsuki.

The police started an investigation after customs officials at Kansai International Airport found plastic cards sent from China in international mail in October.
