WASHINGTON (Kyodo) Tadashi Yanai, chairman and president of Fast Retailing Co., has been named International Retailer of the Year for establishing his company’s Uniqlo casual wear as a global brand, according to the National Retail Federation of the United States.

Yanai is the third Japanese to receive the award. The last recipient, 12 years ago, was Masatoshi Ito, then honorary chairman of supermarket chain Ito-Yokado Co.
