The government might scrap the tax break for dependents next fiscal year because it plans to offer allowances to families raising children the same year, a senior government official said Saturday.
Senior Vice Finance Minister Naoki Minezaki said on a morning TV program that the child-raising allowance and tax break for dependents are linked.
"As a matter of course, we want to discuss the abolition of the deduction for dependents," Minezaki said.
