A government committee promoting decentralization has recommended 892 deregulatory steps, including scrapping national standards for children’s day care centers, sources said Wednesday.

It is hoped that the recommendations, if implemented by the central government, will give its local-level counterparts greater flexibility in running nursery schools in urban areas that often do not have enough child care facilities for working women.
