OSAKA (Kyodo) Sanyo Electric Co. will double annual production capacity of solar battery panels at its factory in Otsu, Shiga Prefecture, to 200 megawatts in summer 2011 to meet growing domestic demand on the back of government subsidies, company officials said Friday.

The Osaka-based electronics maker will invest about ¥4.2 billion to build a new production facility on the premises of the existing factory, with an eye to starting the operations by the end of March 2011, they said.

Including its other factory in Osaka Prefecture, Sanyo's annual output capacity of solar battery panels will increase to 235 megawatts from the current 135 megawatts, the officials said.
