A group of patients sued an eye clinic in Tokyo Thursday, demanding its former director pay them about ¥133 million in compensation for keratitis and other infections allegedly caused by laser-assisted surgery to correct myopia.
Of the 50 plaintiffs, 12 also filed a criminal complaint accusing the former director, Tomoo Mizoguchi, of inflicting bodily harm. Their lawyers also asked the Health, Labor and Welfare Ministry to strip him of his medical license.
