YAMAGATA (Kyodo) A 17-year-old female high school student in Tsuruoka, Yamagata Prefecture, was hit in the neck by buckshot Sunday by a hunter trying to kill crows, police said.

The student, whose name is being withheld, was cooking in the kitchen of her home in the Yobarazu district when she was hit. Her injuries were described as slight.

She is the eldest daughter of Keishi Konno, 47, a local farmer.

Some of the pellets from the shotgun blast pierced a window in the kitchen and hit the girl at around 6:25 a.m., the police said.

The man who fired the shot belongs to a local hunting association that has permission from the municipal government to kill crows with shotguns, the police said.
