OKAYAMA (Kyodo) Building on efforts to cash in on Tama the feline "stationmaster" of Kishi Station in Wakayama Prefecture, Okayama Electric Tramway Co. unveiled a tram Thursday covered with Tama stickers.

The tram made its first run after a ceremony held in front of JR Okayama Station.

Kindergartner Katsuki Nakashima, 6, participated in the tape-cutting ceremony for the new tram.

The Tama tram will make about 15 round trips per day in the city of Okayama.

In March, Wakayama Electric Railway Co., a subsidiary of Okayama Electric Tramway, launched a train decorated with illustrations of the popular cat.

Although the tram is smaller, its seats are all decorated with Tama illustrations.

"We hope people will treat it with affection," an Okayama Electric Tramway official said.
