New Chiba Gov. Kensaku Morita took office Monday after winning an election March 29.

Receiving a bouquet from a staff member, the 59-year-old Morita, an actor and former House of Representatives member from the Liberal Democratic Party, pumped his fist as he walked by prefectural employees who crowded the entrance to the building.

During the campaign, Morita promised to build a maglev line connecting Narita International Airport with Tokyo's Haneda airport.
