FUKUOKA (Kyodo) An aquarium in Fukuoka held an event to mark the first Hina Matsuri celebration for a newborn sea otter Tuesday, the day of the Doll Festival for girls.

The sea otter, born Jan. 27 at Marine World-Uminonakamichi, is Japan's first fourth-generation baby otter born to third-generation parents bred in the same aquarium.

The aquarium will invite the public to name the female. It plans to announce the name May 10 after closing the list May 4.

Born weighing an estimated 2 kg and measuring about 30 cm in length, the sea otter has grown slightly larger than usual, an aquarium official said.

The cub is apparently becoming popular for the cute way she climbs onto her mother's belly, the official added.
