The Meteorological Agency issued wind, surf and snow warnings Friday for a wide range of areas of eastern and northern Japan as an atmospheric depression moved over the archipelago.

Gusty winds are expected to buffet the Pacific coast and the Hokuriku region on the Sea of Japan coast early Saturday and northern Japan by Saturday evening, the agency said.

Wind speeds are expected to reach 65 to 83 kph on land, and 83 to 101 kph at sea.

The depression may also dump 70 cm of snow on Hokkaido, 50 cm on the Tohoku region, and 40 cm on the Hokuriku, northern Kanto and northern Koshin regions by Saturday morning, the agency warned.
